George Bridgewater MNZM – Chair

George is an Olympic medal-winning rower, with commercial experience in finance, economics and strategy. He worked for Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong and Singapore as an equity trader, has established businesses and is also a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA). George is also a board member of Snow Sports New Zealand.

Audit and Risk Chair – Meg Matthews

Meg is a qualified accountant with more than 20 years’ senior management experience across key business disciplines of finance, human resource management, strategic planning and marketing. Meg held the position of Head of Marketing (Australasia) for Air New Zealand and then Chief Executive of World of Wearable Art. She started at the national airline in Corporate Finance after beginning her career with Deloitte. A Member of the Institute of Directors, Meg is a Director of Port Nelson, RealNZ Group and TVNZ. Meg is of Ngāi Tahu descent.

Raylene Bates MNZM

Raylene is the Athletics New Zealand Para Lead and HP Throws Coach. She leads the para athletics programme including HP campaigns, development, talent ID, education, and day to day management of the programme.

Raylene is a Board Member and Trustee of the Halberg Foundation, and a Trustee of the Skeggs Foundation.

A former National and Oceania champion athlete, Raylene now focuses on coaching.

Michael Boggs

Michael was appointed CEO of New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) in March 2016. Prior to that he held the Chief Financial Officer position at NZME and is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA).

Michael was appointed as a Director of Rangatira in September 2024 and is a member of the Remuneration Committee.

Michael has extensive senior executive experience including as Chief Financial Officer at leading insurance company Tower Limited. While at Tower, Michael managed the company’s multibillion-dollar assets, its Pacific Islands operations, earthquake recovery programme and the sale of Tower’s life insurance, health insurance and investment management businesses. This industry leading work was recognised in 2014 when Michael was awarded CFO of the year at the annual New Zealand CFO Awards. Michael also has significant background in the telecommunications and technology sectors with executive roles in the finance, commercial and business functions of major organisations including Telstra’s New Zealand operations.

Dean Bracewell

Dean has significant experience in the freight and logistics industry, with the majority of his career spent at Freightways Limited (Freightways) where he held a number of senior leadership and Executive roles, including most recently as Managing Director from 1999 to 2017.

During his over 30-year career at Freightways he led the business through its successful initial public offering in 2003 and as it diversified its business and extended is geographical footprint into Australia.

Deans is a Director of Property for Industry Limited, Port of Tauranga Limited as well as the Halberg Foundation. Past Governance roles include Tainui Group Holdings Limited, the NZ Initiative and its predecessor the NZ Business Roundtable from 2011 to 2015.

Dean is of Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāi Te Rangi descent.

Duane Kale ONZM

Duane was with the ANZ/National Bank from 1995 to 2021 holding Regional Management and Head of Department positions.

Paralympian #96, Duane achieved multi medal success at the Atlanta Paralympic Games and went on to lead the New Zealand team to Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Paralympic Games as Chef de Mission. He was elected to the International Paralympic Committee Governing Board in 2013 and in 2017 became Vice President.

Duane is a Director of Sport NZ Ihi Aotearoa, High Performance Sport NZ, Paralympics New Zealand and is part of the Whaikaha (Ministry of Disabled People) Risk & Assurance Committee. He is on the International Olympic Committee Evaluation Commission for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In 1997 he was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to swimming and in 2019 was awarded the Sport New Zealand Lifetime Achievement Award. He holds an MBA from Massey University.

Alice Mew

Alice Mew leads the team that manages the NZ Super Fund’s global private market investments and was Chair of the Fund’s Investment Committee from Apr’21 to Aug’23. After starting her career as an Economist at the Reserve Bank in Wellington, Alice spent ~17 years based in London having a ball and gaining extensive experience across a range of geographies and markets / asset classes, from structured finance and fixed income to sovereign credit and economics. Alice serves on the Boards of a number of companies and charities and is delighted to be able to contribute her investment, governance, strategy and leadership skills to the Halberg Foundation.

Alice lives on Waiheke with her husband and two daughters, she loves spending time with her family and friends, travelling, reading, art (appreciating, not creating!) and being active in the outdoors.
