CELEBRATING THREE DAYS OF INCLUSIVE ADVENTURE AT WHAKAPAPA

The Whakapapa Adapted Ski Festival brought together three memorable days of skiing, snowboarding, connection and celebration on the muanga.

The festival provided an opportunity for participants of all abilities to experience the mountain, challenge themselves and enjoy the freedom and excitement of being on snow. From first-time experiences and new friendships to slalom activities, medals and shared moments with whānau and friends, the weekend highlighted the positive impact of inclusive adventure.

For some participants, the festival marked an important first step onto the snow. For others, it was an opportunity to build confidence, reconnect with the adaptive snow sports community and take on new challenges. Across the three days, the atmosphere was one of encouragement, connection and celebration.

Halberg was proud to partner with Whakapapa for the second consecutive year and to see the festival continue to grow.

A huge thank you to the Whakapapa team, including the ski school, instructors, lifties, rental crew, on-mountain teams, cafe staff, road crew and everyone working behind the scenes. Their commitment and support helped create a welcoming, accessible and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Sunday brought an extra highlight as Joy the Kea joined Koha the Kiwi on the mountain, bringing plenty of excitement and smiles to participants and whānau.

Most importantly, the festival demonstrated what can be achieved when opportunities for participation are created for everyone. These experiences can help build confidence and create lasting memories, while breaking down barriers to participation in sport and recreation.

Thank you to every participant, whānau member, volunteer, supporter and staff member who contributed to such a memorable weekend.

We look forward to returning to Whakapapa for another celebration of adaptive snow sports in 2027.
