The weather cleared just in time for eager students from Waipahihi School, St Pats (Taupo), and Hilltop School to dive into the excitement of the first Taupo Adapted Play Festival! This event, the first of four, was made possible through a strong partnership between the Lake Taupo District Sports Advisory Council and Halberg. It was wonderful to see smiles lighting up the faces of students, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback from both students and staff highlighted just how much they enjoys the day.

One of the standout moments was the continued popularity of the trikes, which were a massive hit with all the students. A special thanks goes to the amazing crew from Ride Your Trike, who made the trip to Taupo to bring their signature energy and support to the event. A true highlight of the day was watching the students step out of their comfort zones and give the activities a go. They were given plenty of time and encouragement to decide how they wanted to engage, which created an inclusive and supportive atmosphere. The deliverers from King Country Rugby, Taupo Football, Taupo Basketball, Taupo Hockey, Ride Your Trike, and Northern Districts Cricket excelled in adapting their activities to meet the individual needs of every participant, ensuring no one was left out and everyone felt part of the action.

We’re thrilled by the success of the first festival and can’t wait to see even more schools and students join in for the upcoming sessions on 27th November, 4 December, and 11 December. It’s shaping up to be a truly special series of events!
