TARANAKI’S FIRST EVER AMAZING RACE A HIT WITH FAMILIES ACROSS THE REGION
The sun was shining, spirits were high, and the beautiful Taranaki coactline set the perfect scene for a milestone moment – our first ever Amazing Race in the Taranaki region. Held on Saturday, the family event was an absolute hit, bringing together whānau of all ages and abilities for a day overflowing with energy, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
From the moment teams arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing. Colourful dress-ups, wide smiles, and plentty of excited chatter filled the start line as families prepared to take on a series of fun and inclusive challenges scattered along the coastal walkway. it was a sight that perfectly captured the heart of the event: community, creativity, and connection.
Along the route, participants tackled an engaging mix of rugby passing drills, mini football, athletics challenges, and target games, with bubbles adding a playful touch for the younger racers. For those seekin something different, our stations offered sensory challenges, boccia for all abilities, adaptive CrossFit sessions, and even surf life saving activities, ensuring there was something for everyone. Each activity brought laughter, plenty of cheering, and the kind of shared joy that makes days like this so special.
The dress-ups were a standout highlight – families arrived in costumes that added more fun and personality to the day. Whether superhero capes or retro aerobics, they brought extra vibes to the event and kept the smiles going from start to finish.
None of this would have been possible without the incredible people behind the scenes. A huge thank you goes to our partners for desiging engaging and inclusive Pit Stop challenges, our marshalls for guiding teams safely along the route, our volunteers who brought enthusiasm and heart, supported our athletes and the smooth running of the day and to our wonderful families, who showed up eager and ready to enjoy a day of challenges and activities.
The success of this first-ever event has set the tone for something truly special in Taranaki. With sunshine, community, and so much joy in the air, the Taranaki Amazing Race has made an unforgettable debut – and we can’t wait to do it all again!
