SCOT’S COLLEGE HOSTS INCLUSIVE OLYMPICS EVENT IN SUPPORT OF THE HALBERG FOUNDATION

Scot’s College Middle School recently held a vibrant and inspiring Inclusive Olympics fundraising event, bringing together their entire school community to support Halberg. This unique event was designed to engage every student, providing opportunities to participate and shine across academic, cultural, and sports activities. The Inclusive Olympics featured a variety of exciting activities inspired by the Olympic Games. Student’s showcased their knowledge in a themed quiz, competed in a lively dodgeball tournament, expressed their creativity through a chant competition, and tested their skills in water kickball and teeball. The diverse range of events ensured that every student could contribute in their own way, fostering a sense of inclusion and teamwork.

Scot’s College student’s raised an impressive $9,000 through this event, demonstrating their commitment to supporting Halberg and making a difference in the community.

Beyond raising funds, the event also aimed to raise awareness about Halberg’s mission and to strengthen the values of community and inclusivity among students and staff. It was a day filled with energy, collaboration, and purpose. A highlight of the event was a special visit from Halberg’s Board Member and former Paralympic medalist Duane Kale. Duane captivated the students with a talk about the importance of inclusion and shared inspiring stories from his own journey as a Paralympian. His words resonated deeply, emphasising how sport can unite and empower individuals.

Duane also took the opportunity to recognise the remarkable leadership of Year 10 student Hadley Johnston, whose vision and passion brought this movement to life at Scot’s College. “Hadley’s initiative in organising this event reflects the spirit of inclusivity that Halberg champions,” Duane said.

Adding to the excitement, Duane brought along a Paralympic torch from the Paris 2024 Games. Student’s had the unforgettable experience of running the Halberg Mile Relay in their houses while carrying the Paralympic flame. This symbolic moment connected students to the legacy and values of the Paralympic Games, reinforcing themes of teamwork, community, and the unifying power of sport. Halberg extends it’s heartfelt thanks to Scot’s College for selecting us as their charity of choice for 2024. Your support enables us to continue our work in creating opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in sport and recreation. We are thrilled by the success of this event and look forward to collaborating on future initiatives that inspire inclusion and celebrate the power of community.
