The energy was high and the smiles were endlessly at Wednesday’s Primary School All Abilities Sports Day, where tamariki and whānau came toegther for a day filled with play, connection, and sunshine. From the moment participants arrived, the excitement was contagious – and with a stunningly hot day, it truly felt like summer had arrived early!
The event was a collaboration between Harbour Sport and Halberg, and the partnership couldn’t have gone better. It was fantastic to work alongside such an enthusiastic and supportive team throughout both the planning process and the event itself.
A huge thank you goes out to Auckland Cricket, AFL New Zealand, Special Olympics, Disability Sport Auckland, Pupuke Golf Club, and Hungerball for delivering an incredible variety of games and sports for everyone to enjoy. Their activities kept the fun flowing and encouraged participants to try something new while embracing the spirit of play and learning.
We also extend our thanks to Burgerfuel for coming along and bringing the vibes ( and some extra smiles!) to the day, adding even more energy to the atmosphere. The event wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of Birkenhead Collage for hosting us, and a special acknowledgment to Beachhaven Primary School – the original brains behind these Play Days three years ago. Their idea has continued to grow, creating meaningful opportunities for tamariki and families to come together through sport.
Reflecting on the day, one thing stood out above all, the joy. Seeing tamariki light up as they explored new sports, alongside proud and happy whānau, was a powerful reminder of what makes these events so special.
Here’s to more sunny days of play, laughter, and collaboration ahead!
