The New Zealand Paralympic Team is gearing up to compete in the Paris 2024 Paralympics this August. Representing the fern with pride, the Para athletes are prepared to participate in various sports showcasing their talent and dedication on the world stage.
New Zealand has a rich history in the Paralympics with past competitors setting high standards through remarkable performances, with New Zealand having 227 Paralympians competing over 28 Paralympic Games winning a total of 236 medals overall. This year’s team is no exception with members competing across a variety of sports, including athletics, swimming, cycling, and more.
The New Zealand team features a diverse group of Para athletes, each with their own inspiring stories and unique journeys. Among them are seasoned Paralympian’s returning for another chance at glory, as well as newcomers eager to make their debut on the global stage. Their collective goal is not only to win medals but also to break barriers and challenge perceptions about disability and sport.
The team will compete in a range of Para sports, each requiring different skills and showcasing the adaptability of the athletes. From the precision and endurance required in Para cycling to the speed and agility needed in Para swimming, the New Zealand Paralympian’s are set to showcase their talents.
While at Halberg we focus on the grassroots of disability sport, many of the Para athletes about to represent New Zealand have been part of the Halberg Club in one way or another. Whether attending the Halberg Games sparked a love for sprinting, or an Activity Fund provided them access to specialised lessons or equipment, or you were the latest recipient of the ISPS Handa Para Athlete of the Year Award, we are excited to have them as part of our club, and we look forward to following them all with such pride.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing content on our social channels to introduce you to some of the incredible Para Athletes heading to Paris. Be sure to stay tuned! As the Paralympic Games draw closer, the excitement and anticipation continue to build. For more details, updates and to find each athletes schedule, visit https://paralympics.org.nz/
