After the Halberg Awards, our Advisor team and Service Level Agreement Contractors (SLA’s) participated in a two-day hui in Auckland. The first day focused on building stronger connections between Youth Council members and advisors, starting with an engaging Whanaungatanga session. This was followed by small group discussions aimed at enhancing our collective impact on the local, regional, and national levels. We also explored exciting ideas for the Halberg Games and what the future might look like with this event. Both discussion points have provided us with some really insightful idea’s which we’ll build on and look to integrate into our future.

In the afternoon, we continued the whanaungatanga with a fun, yet competitive, round of ten-pin bowling at Archie Brothers – another great chance for our team to bond. The importance if this full day of the Youth Council with the advisors cannot be underestimated. Ēhara tāku toa i te toa takatahi, engari he toa takitini : Our strength is not made from us alone but made from many working together.

Day two began with a valuable lesson led by James Garner from CoachMate. He presented on our partnership, the app’s features, and our collective alignment with the goals of our digital resources on the CoachMate app. The team provided feedback on what’s working well and areas for improvement. Our next steps include gathering deeper insights to inform content development later this year.

Following that, we took part in an interactive workshop on building and managing resilience, hosted by Cynthia from The Challenge of Change. This session provided personal/professional development opportunities, offering our team valuable tools that extend beyond the workplace.

A key highlight of the hui was the participation of our Service Level Contractors: Maria from Disability Sport Auckland, Angela from Parafed Northland, Lou from Parafed Gisborne, and Georgia from Sport Tasman. As well as our connections with the Youth Council. Their involvement brought a unique youth, regional and external perspective to our discussions. We appreciate their time and input, and we’re grateful to have them as part of our wider Halberg team.
