Halberg is delighted to welcome real estate agent James MacDonald from Barfoot & Thompson as a valued supporter, for every property he sells, James will make a donation to support our work at Halberg. We spoke to James, who explains his motivation and passion for supporting disability inclusion in sports and recreation. Read on to find out more.
Service to the community has always been a core value for me. My journey in the disability sector began at 18-19 as a support worker. I guided teenagers through their transition from high school to the next stage in life, a role I continued while pursuing a degree in social work. Over the past decade, I’ve held various roles at the Ministry for Children, starting as a social worker and progressing to leadership and management. In these roles, a significant portion of the children I worked with had diverse disabilities, providing me with extensive experience in this field.
Equal opportunity is important to me, and I have seen the horrible treatment of persons with disabilities, which is unacceptable. On the other hand, sports have played a significant role in my life through rugby, gym, and CrossFit, and now I coach teams and support clubs as a father.
Giving back is part of who I am; I wanted to keep this when moving to real estate. While I cannot do that at the same level as I did in my previous roles, I can support The Halberg Foundation through donations and by getting their message out to the community. I have pledged a percentage of my commission back to The Halberg Foundation. I will donate 10% of my commission to The Halberg Foundation for any sale through anyone connected to the organisation (staff, volunteers, families, participants).”
James is located in the Auckland Ponsonby branch, please get in touch with him today if you’re looking to sell.
