The Sir Murray Halberg Legacy Award is named in honour of the late Olympic gold medallist whose vision of inclusion and empowerment continues to live on thanks to his efforts in establishing the Halberg Foundation. Halberg exists to ensure that all young Kiwis have equal opportunity to participate in sport and recreation.
This Award has been established to champion and honour individuals whose contributions have made a lasting impact on disability sport communities in Aotearoa and will be presented at the 62nd ISPS Handa Halberg Awards.
Nominees of this Award must:
- Be an individual that makes, or has made, a positive contribution to the lives of disabled young people in New Zealand through sport, recreation or play
- Embody the values of inclusion and empowerment that Sir Murray Halberg displayed throughout his life
- Have made significant impact between 1st December 2023 and 30th November 2024
- Meet the conditions of entry for the Award
- Must be submitted by no later than 8pm on Sunday 1st December 2024
How will the finalists and winners be determined?
- Eligible nominations will be divided up into 4 regions: Upper North Island, Lower North Island, Upper South Island and Lower South Island
- Eligible nominations will be shared with a regional judging panels in each key region
- One Finalist will be chosen in each region
- A National Judging Panel will convene to review the four Finalists and will vote to choose one winner of the Sir Murray Halberg Legacy Award
- The Sir Murray Halberg Legacy Award will be presented to the Winner at the Halberg Awards, Spark Arena Auckland on 18th February 2025
What will the winners receive?
- Each of the four regional finalists will receive:
- A complimentary 12-month premium CityFitness membership thanks to our partner at CityFitness
- Two complimentary tickets to the 62nd ISPS Handa Halberg Awards on Tuesday 18th February 2025
- A specially designed trophy provided by Ellerslie Jewelers
